Ross Lilly and Josh.gifGlideCycle Evaluation

We use the GlideCycle extensively in our program of inspiring higher function in people living with disabilities.  At Access Sport America we find this system is superior for gait training and conditioning programs.   The T-bar/seat is simply ingenious, and is kinder than any other harness system to reduce weight bearing.  We believe that moving through space, rather than in a stationary erg, elicits greater gains from our athletes.  Trainers can easily side walk and assist in manipulating for better gait with the GlideCycle.  We also like that every athlete's conditioning is improving because of the full body workout.  In short, the GlideCycle has helped us change how we train our athletes living with conditions ranging from cerebral palsy to amputation to spinal injury.

 Experience the Freedom!

GlideCycle™ delivers freedom - freedom from the limitations permanent and recovering mobility impairments. Experience the Freedom to enjoy being outdoors with friends and family on scenic bicycle paths, trails and parks.

GlideCycle™ is not a wheelchair; it is the ultimate in personal freedom. People with mobility limitations resulting from above knee, below knee and some double amputations; orthopedic reconstructions, neurological impairments, balance impairment, weakness, loss of motion, debilitating pain from arthritic joints, or lower limb pain can often climb out of wheelchairs, leave behind crutches, and literally walk and run upright again - sometimes faster than many unimpaired individuals.

Mobility impaired users of the GlideCycle™ such as Holly, Mike, or Dale seen in the “Amputee Free,” video on this page, report tremendous uplift in spirit as they experience exhilarating outdoor mobility and exercise. They have significantly reduced or taken a break from pain and antidepressant medications. They report the GlideCycle™ has brought their lives back on track by giving them a freedom beyond imagination. Mike, with an Above Knee Amputation, began running unweighted on his GlideCycle™ 3 to 5 miles several times a week and ran up to 22 miles!  GlideCyclists with Below Knee Amputations, such as Ray or Steve, run along with others and few if any notice their prosthetic limb.

Professional Evaluations:

"I’d like to introduce you to a new product called the GlideCycle™ (www.glidecycle.com) - an excellent option for Veteran amputees.  Our rehab department has evaluated the product over the past year or so, and determined it has application for VA issue – especially the younger, more active Veteran population."  James Manser, Chief of Prosthetics, VA, Roseburg

"I have seen people with all manner of lower extremity impairment able to sit on the GlideCycle™ and accomplish the ability to run almost instantly. They were able to do this with only a short amount of training time and no addition appliances using their normal walking equipment. The level of cardio exercise that this "bike" offers is far superior to that of a wheelchair and places the rider into the upright "running stance" that they likely have not been able to experience since their injury. I think your effort to bring this technology to our veterans first is fantastic. Keith Wolford, OTR/L, Acting Manager: CC&RS, VA Healthcare System, Oregon

"The GlideCycle™ is the most significant new breakthrough in human mobility that I have seen in two decades."   Ricky Martin, Chief of Prosthetics, Veterans Administration, White City.

"Once again, I had amazing results with a patient today.  I am really appreciating the motor learning component which the GlideTrak™ provides (feeding the pattern when the body isn't quite ready to perform the complex task of walking without assistance)."   Michaela Begg MSPT, Neurological Rehabilitation, Asante Medical System, Medford, Oregon.

"GlideCycle’s™ exciting unweighting technology has the most far reaching applications and potential to benefit the health and well being of more people than any other exercise or mobility devices I have encountered. I have seen people get up out of their wheelchairs and literally run unweighted on GlideCycles™, including patients and soldiers with mobility impairments ranging from amputations to complex neurological and orthopedic conditions.  Imagine what it felt like to all of us the first time I ran on a GlideCycle™ with four other amputee runners as equals, climbing hills and enjoying the sunset together.  It was and continues to be one of the most powerful, heartwarming, exhilarating and life-changing experiences I have encountered. In my professional opinion the GlideCycle™ and GlideTrak™ belong in every rehabilitation and adaptive sport program."    Cindy Powell, MPT, ATC, STS Active Choice Physical Therapy, Inc., Acting Director of Training & Research at GlideCycle

I think this is a great rehab tool, but what I really like is that I can run again using this GlideCycle™.  I have a shattered ankle and have really missed the ability to run.  I am really excited about being able to run again without the impact.  Karen, Manager of Physical Therapy, Dominica Hospital System, California.

"The Glidecycle™is one of the most exciting things I have seen since botox injections for spasticity ten years ago!"  Corneilia Byers, MD, Spinal Injury Medicine, Internal Medicine, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Providence Medical Center, Medford, Or.
